Paris in 42.75km: site-specific installation at the Carreau du Temple (Paris) for the Olympic Games
From July 19 to September 8, 2024, the Carreau du Temple hosted the City of Paris Media Center, where journalists encountered a monumental installation: Paris in 42.75km.
Conceived by artist Jeanne Varaldi, this visual and textual portrait of the capital is drawn from 15 walking conversations held with local residents, covering a cumulative distance of 42.75 km. Fragments of these dialogues are displayed across a textile canopy suspended within the nave of the Carreau du Temple. The installation offers an immersion into everyday Paris through the singular voice of each participant, revealing an alternative urban fabric woven from individual steps and shared stories.
An interactive digital kiosk allows visitors to explore the full collection of conversations and itineraries, alongside a series of portraits by photographer Quentin Chevrier.
